Adjustable bed

How did you sleep last night? Did you fall asleep straight away, sleep soundly all night long, and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day?

If the answer is 'no', you're not alone. It can be tough to get a good night's sleep, especially as you get older. Aches and pains, stress, and certain medications can all keep you up. But there is a solution.

Adjustable beds have become increasingly popular in recent years. You don't need to have a medical condition or disability to use one. They're one of the best ways to get a good night's sleep.

So what can an adjustable bed offer that a normal bed can't? From improving your circulation to helping you breathe more easily, here are seven benefits of using an adjustable bed.

1) Improved circulation

Poor circulation is a problem that affects many of us. The most common symptoms include swelling in your feet and ankles, numbness and tingling, and cold hands and feet.

If you tend to wake up with swollen ankles, keeping your feet slightly elevated overnight will make a huge difference to your comfort. This position helps pump the blood back to your heart, promoting proper blood flow and reducing uncomfortable swelling. You'll wake up ready to take on the day.

2) Ease aches and pains

There's nothing worse than being kept awake by a throbbing knee or hip. If you suffer from arthritis, you're probably all too familiar with painful joints and aching muscles, especially last thing at night and first thing in the morning.

Sore, painful joints can make getting a good night's sleep difficult. An adjustable bed will ease your pain by providing adequate support for your bones and muscles.

When you lie on a normal bed, your body is left without support in certain areas. This means that your muscles have to support your joints overnight, which can worsen pain and fatigue. An adjustable bed distributes your weight evenly, providing pressure relief and support just where it's needed, giving your muscles a well-deserved break.

3) Alleviate back pain

If you suffer from back pain, you may find lying completely flat uncomfortable. Using additional pillows can help, but they won't provide proper lumbar support. In time, sleeping unsupported can make your pain worse.

An adjustable bed allows you to raise your upper body as much or as little as you like. This means you can find a position that takes the pressure off the painful areas while keeping you supported all night long.

4) Breathe more easily

If you suffer from a respiratory condition like asthma or COPD, lying down can make your symptoms worse. It's either difficult to get to sleep, or you wake up in the middle of the night feeling breathless and congested.

Sleeping with your upper body raised opens up your airways, making it easier to breathe. It can even decrease your risk of pneumonia by reducing the amount of pressure placed on your chest cavity.

5) Relief from acid reflux and heartburn

Acid reflux and heartburn are unpleasant at any time of day, but they can be particularly problematic at night. Raising your head and neck tends to help, but propping yourself up using cushions can increase pressure on your abdomen and make acid reflux worse.

An adjustable bed could help you manage your symptoms by making it possible to raise your head while providing support for your upper body. Avoiding food a few hours before you go to bed and wearing pyjamas that are loose around your middle may also ease heartburn and acid reflux.

6) Relax in comfort

We spend around a third of our lives in bed, so your bed should offer more than just a great night's sleep. It should be somewhere you can relax; a place that provides the perfect combination of comfort and convenience.

You do more in bed than just sleep. An adjustable bed is perfect for watching TV, sitting up and enjoying your favourite book, or just relaxing.

An adjustable bed means that you can find your ideal position for reading, enjoying breakfast in bed, or just watching TV. You can raise your upper body at the touch of a button, or relax with your feet up. What's more, if you tend to find yourself experiencing discomfort in the hotter weather, an adjustable bed could help you sleep more easily in the summer.

7) Independence

Getting into bed at the end of a long day should be something you look forward to, not something you worry about. But as we get older, getting in and out of bed can become difficult or painful.

If you find yourself worrying about getting out of bed safely, an adjustable bed could be exactly what you need. With simple controls, adjustable beds make it possible to gently ease yourself into an upright position and provide a bit of extra stability - all without the assistance of another person.
